Sophomore attack Mike Melnychenko and junior attack Craig Owen (Haverford School) each collected five points as visiting Chestnut Hill College defeated Dominican, 19-4, Friday to claim an east Coast conference win.
The Griffins, ranked no. 11 in the nation in Division II, led 10-2 at halftime and 17-2 after three periods.
Melnychenko scored five goals and Owen had three goals and two assist for the Griffins. Melnychenko also recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover. In addition to his offensive production, Owen recorded two ground ball recoveries to the victory.
Junior midfielder Mike Duddy, freshman midfielder Chris Mertens, and sophomore midfielder Bart Pierre each totaled three points as key offensive contributors; Mertens won 9-of-12 (.750) in the face-off circle and hustled to nine ground balls.
The Griffin defensive effort was led by sophomore defenseman Chris Schaffer (Lititz, PA), who recorded one ground ball and caused two turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) made four saves and two ground ball recoveries in his fifth win of the season (5-1).
