Chelsea Rosiek has been promoted to the post of head girls’ lacrosse coach at her alma mater, Wissahickon.

Chelsea Rosiek

Rosiek served as an assistant to Jamie Donahue last year after a standout career at Temple University where she was voted the team’s MVP and was named All-Atlantic 10 Conference in 2010.

Rosiek, who is a part-time assistant at Haverford College, also has coached for WissLax youth and is the 2015 coach at Ultimate Goal.

She said moving up to the head coach at Wissahickon was the perfect opportunity.

“I was the assistant last year, so why not be head of the team I played for?” she said. “It gets me back in the best possible way to be a head coach and instill my philosophies.

“I am happy to give back what I learned. I already know the girls and their style of play, their competitiveness and knowledge of the game. I’ll try and implement what I did last year on the JV team. It’s very rewarding.”

Rosiek said she expects his players to exhibit a strong work ethic.

“I’m definitely a coach that relies on work ethic,” she said. “I would rather play girls that give 100 percent than a bunch of star athletes. This is truly a small piece of a much larger picture in their lives and I am trying to instill in them some basic fundamentals and truths about life like working hard and being respectful and having integrity and being positive.”

Rosiek said one of her biggest influences was Temple coach Bonnie Rosen, a US Lacrosse Hall of Famer.

“She is a fantastic coach and i learned so much from her that I can apply,” Rosiek said. ‘So much of what she taught increased my beadth of knowledge. I know the game in a different way with techniques so diverse. She shaped the way I coach a team.”

Rosiek also earned A-10 all-tournament team twice and A-10 honor roll twice. She also selected for the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaching Association’s academic honor roll in 2009 and 2010.
