Women’s recruits: Division II power Lock Haven welcomes four Philly girls in freshman class

Lock Haven University lacrosse announces the addition of 14 talented student-athletes to its roster for the upcoming season.

Five states will be represented with this incoming class, including seven hailing from Pennsylvania – Melinda Wojt (Telford, Souderton High), Kelly Hamilton (Warrington, Central Bucks South), Jill Murray (Unionville, Unionville High), Leah Peppelman (Downingtown, Bishop Shanahan), Christina Hawkins (York, Pa.), Aubrey Buss (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Alyssa Olenick (Butler, Pa.).

LHU head coach Kristen Selvage is very excited about the talent level the incoming class will add to the team.

Melinda Wojt
Telford, Pa./Souderton Area High School
Defender

She will be majoring in middle school education and playing defense for the Lock Haven lacrosse team. Melinda was an honor roll student and was a member of the varsity lacrosse team for four years. As a sophomore, she led her high school team in assists. As a junior, she was awarded Most Valuable Defensive Player and First Team Suburban One Continental Conference- Defense. As a senior, Melinda was an All-League First-team defender and team Defensive MVP.

She played club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal and Souderton Area Girls Lacrosse Association. She also participated in soccer, swam and danced.

She chose Lock Haven because of feeling connected to and loving the lacrosse team, small class sizes and individualized attention.

Coach Selvage: “Melinda is an incredibly dedicated player who has continued to get better throughout each season of her high school career. Melinda is a defender who has the ability to play midfield and attack. She is aggressive and vocal on the defensive end of the field and she will need to get right out there and take no prisoners this season.”

Kelly Hamilton
Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South High School
Attack

Hamilton will be majoring in middle level and special education. Kelly was a honor roll student and was involved in many school activities. She has been a four-year varsity starter for CB South’s lacrosse team and is a 4x Suburban One All-League selection.

In her senior year she was selected as the Player of the Year for the SOL Continental Conference as well as First Team Midfield. She was also named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American. Her team awards include MVP and Offensive MVP and she was elected co-captain her junior and senior year. Kelly has played 4 years of club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal. She was also a four-year varsity field hockey player for CB South.

She chose Lock Haven because she loves everything about it; the campus, the coaches, and the team.

Coach Selvage: ” I am very excited about Kelly joining our program. She is an all-around strong player. She is very fast, has excellent stick skills and has the ability to play anywhere on the field. Most of this is because of her positive attitude and willingness to mold herself into a great player. I believe she will do amazing things for us on the field here at LHU, but no one will push her harder than herself. Kelly demands excellence and a great work ethic.”

Leah Peppelman
Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan
Defender

She was an honorable mention all-league defender from Downingtown, Pa. She joins the LHU lacrosse team as a feisty defender.

She played for the SEPA lacrosse club.

She chose Lock Haven because of the strong lacrosse program but also because of her interest in the education program. She will major in biology/secondary education.

Coach Selvage: “Leah is a very aggressive defender with a great work ethic and attitude. She demands a lot from herself. She has good stick skills and good vision for a defender.”

Jill Murray
Unionville, Pa./Unionville High School
Attack

Murray will be majoring in health sciences and playing attack for Lock Haven.
She attended Unionville High School in Kennett Square, Pa. She played soccer, basketball, and varsity lacrosse for 3 years and helped her team to the Pennsylvania state semi-finals in 2009 and 2010, the Pennsylvania Chestmont League championship in 2009, and played on the Philly UnderArmour Team in 2010.

She played for the SEPA lacrosse club.

She chose LHU because of the campus, location, coaches and the team.

Coach Selvage: “Jill is super fast, has a great positive attitude and is a good goal scorer. She has a great crease roll and very good vision. Jill always looks like a threat which is what makes her so deadly.”

Alyssa Goldeisen
Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron High School
Goalkeeper

She previously attended Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City, Maryland. At Mount Hebron, she was on honor roll each quarter from freshman year to senior year. She also received the Student Athlete Award all four seasons of high school lacrosse including her three years as a varsity player. As a senior, she was an All-Metro Academic All-American.

Ashley Molina
Fairport, N.Y./Fairport High School
Attack

She will be majoring in Biology/Chemistry at Lock Haven University. Ashley graduated from Fairport High School in Fairport, NY.

Rachel Ward
Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard High School
Midfielder

She will be studying health science at Lock Haven. She went to Bishop Chatard high school in Indianapolis, Indiana where she lettered in golf, cross country, lacrosse and basketball.

Aubrey Buss
Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin High School
Defender

She will be joining the Pre-physician’s Assistant program with a minor in Nanotechnology at LHU. She will be playing defense for the Lock Haven Lacrosse team. She graduated from Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, Pa in 2010.

Meg McNally
Hillburn, N.Y./Suffern High School
Midfielder

She was a four year varsity player for her high school lacrosse team, played for the Hudson Valley Hurricanes club team, was a member of the Hudson Valley national team in 2009 and 2010, and also played for the Hudson Valley Empire State team.

Chrissy Baffuto
Long Valley N.J./West Morris Central High School
Goalkeeper

She comes to LHU from West Morris Central High School where she earned 2009 & 2010 All-County Honorable Mention, 2010 Team-Morris County, 2010 Honorable Mention All-Conference Northwest New Jersey, and 2010 Honorable Mention All-League-NJIGLL. As a senior, Chrissy was captain of her high school lacrosse team.

Christina Hawkins
York, Pa./Havre de Grace High School
Defender

A defender hailing from Maryland. Christina was named team captain and second-team all-county. She played club lacrosse for Northeast Maryland Select (NEMS).

Lauren Ivancich
Beech Haven, N.J./Southern Regional High School
Defender

A defender who was a three-year varsity member. She was the 2010 Ram Pride Player of the Year, was named to the 2010 second-team Atlantic City Press team, and was the 2009 Rookie of the Year.

Taylor Klunk
Forrest Hill, Md./Bel Air High School
Midfielder

At Bel Air High School, she was a member of the varsity lacrosse team for four years and also played field hockey. She was the leading scorer of her field hockey team her senior year and also received second-team all-county. She received the Minds in Motion award every year as well. Her junior and senior year she led the varsity lacrosse team in assists.

Alyssa Olenick
Butler, Pa./Butler Senior High School
Midfielder

A three-year high school letter recipient for lacrosse. She was named to the All-WPIAL second team, the Division All-Star team and was named team captain. Alyssa also competed in cross country and indoor track.
