Radnor rising senior midfielder Kristen Norden has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Colgate University.

Radnor's Kristen Norden has committed to Colgate

Norden helped Radnor to a share of the Central League title in 2011. She was named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American and Second Team All-Central League.

Norden, who plays club lacrosse for SEPA Green, has made the Philly National Tournment team twice, (Philly 4 in 2009 and Philly 2 in 2011) and was also on the Philly Under Armour Underclassmen Games team in 2010.

Colgate went 9-7 and reached the finals of the Patriot League tournament in 2011.

“I really wanted a school with strong academics, and the class size was a good fit,” said Norden. “From the lacrosse portion, I loved the coaches, the team is really good, and I really wanted a Division I school.”

Radnor alum Beasley Hays, a rising junior defender who starts at Colgate, encouraged Norden to consider the school.

“When I went and visited the school, it seemed like a really good fit for me,” Norden said

Other Radnor rising seniors that have made commitments to play Division I college lacrosse are goalie Colleen Packer (Columbia), midfield/attack Natalie Miller (Georgetown), and midfield/attack Elizabeth Lowry (Duquesne).

Radnor (14-6) had several key non-league wins in over Downingtown East and Episcopal Academy in 2011. The Red Raiders, the PIAA champions in 2009 and 2010, were knocked out of District 1 play in the second round by Council Rock North.

Norden feels that Red Raiders still had an impressive season as it transitioned to new coach Brooke Fritz with a young squad.

“We lost a lot of starters so we had a really young team this year and a new coach but we did really well,” said Norden. “We didn’t get as far as we hoped to but I think next year we’ll have a lot of returning starters and we’ll be really strong.

“I think we can hopefully make it to state championships in 2012, because we would like to get that back.”
