Women’s lacrosse: Former Phila. University coach Malone (Arch. Prendergast, Cabrini) named head coach at Neumann

Christy Malone has been named head women’s lacrosse coach at Neumann University, Chuck Sack, Director of Athletics and Recreation announced recently.

Malone is a graduate of Archbishop Prendergast and Cabrini College and former coach at Division II Philadelphia University and most recently Division III St. Bonaventure.

“She has demonstrated successful leadership at every level of collegiate athletics both as a student-athlete and more recently as a coach,” Sack said. “She has an excellent understanding of Division III collegiate athletics as well as the sport of lacrosse. We are excited to welcome Christy to Neumann University.”

Said Malone: “I’m honored to be named the Associate A.D./Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Neumann University. This is an amazing opportunity for me and I am thrilled to relocate back to my hometown. I want to thank Chuck Sack and the search committee for this opportunity. I look forward to representing Neumann University and am excited about the future for Neumann Athletics.”

Malone comes to Neumann after spending four seasons at St. Bonaventure where she posted a 24-38 record. While at St. Bonaventure, Malone coached one Defense Player of the Year in the A10 and saw 16 lacrosse student-athletes achieve All-Conference honors.

Prior to coaching at St. Bonaventure Malone spent the five seasons at Philadelphia University, including four as the head coach. Malone posted a 39-21 overall record and helped lead the Rams to the ECAC Division II Championship in 2007.

During her tenure at Philadelphia, Malone coached nine All-Americans or All-Region selections, including three in the 2005 season. Malone’s immediate impact at Philadelphia didn’t go unnoticed as she was named the coach of the 2004 Division II Senior All-Star Game at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County following her first season.

A native of Aldan, Pa., Malone earned her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Cabrini in 2001. As a standout goalie, Malone was a two-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Most Valuable Player, helping the Cavaliers to the PAC title all four years. In 2000 and 2001, Cabrini was invited to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
