Women’s lacrosse: Drexel opens with win behind six goals from Wood (Conestoga) and big efforts from Philly grads

Charlotte Wood (Conestoga) poured in six goals to lead host Drexel to a 14-9 triumph today over George Washington in the Dragons’ women’s lacrosse opener.

Kelli Joran (Downingtown East) and Alyse Maiden (one assist) had two goals each. Amanda Norcini (Conestoga), Jaclyn Klunder (Conestoga), Amanda Gregg (Upper Dublin) and Julia Lanzetta (Ridley) each scored once for the Dragons.

On the defensive end, Norcini recorded three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Joran and Kaitlin Harris (Archbishop Carroll) had team-highs of four draw controls. Harris also picked up four groundballs. Senior Katie Blazer tallied two draw controls and three groundballs.

Sarah Phillips (Downingtown West) led GW (1-1) with a goal and two assists..

The Dragons return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 23 against Saint Joseph’s at 4:00 p.m.
