Wings win first NLL game of the year by rallying past host Colorado, 11-10

Paul Dawson scored the game-winner with 1:30 to play to lift the Philadelphia Wings to a stunning 11-10 victory over the host Colorado Mammoth tonight in National Lacrosse League action in Denver.

Dawson’s goal capped a superb rally for the Wings (1-2), who won their first game of the year in style by roaring back from a 7-3 halftime deficit.

Max Seibald had three goals and an assist for the Wings, who erupted for eight goals in the second half. Philadelphia had managed just 12 goals in its first two losses and had struggled mightily for offense in the second half of each game.

This time, the Wings notched three unanswered goals – by Seibald, Ryan Boyle and Drew Westervelt – in the third period to pull within 7-6.

In the final period, Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco) and Seibald scored in the first :38 to give the Wings an 8-7 lead. The teams traded goals until Dawson’s game-winner.

Dawson finished with two goals and an assist while Boyle and Athan Iannucci each had a goal and two assists. Brendan Mundorf and David Mitchell each added a goal whole Pat Heim (Conestoga) dished three assists while Brett Manney (Holy Ghost Prep) and Alex Turner each had assists.

Heim won 13 of 24 face-offs while Bill McGlone (Ridley) had six loose balls. Goalie Brandon Miller was a standout once again, notching 42 saves and adding two assists.

Brian Langtry led Colorado (1-2) with three goals and an assist and John Grant had two goals and six assists. Chris Levis made 30 saves.
