Wednesday’s women’s college roundup: La Salle wins, Drexel thumps St. Joe’s, Temple bows to Rutgers

Lauren McDermott (North Penn) tallied four goals and added an assist and Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) added three goals as host La Salle evened its record at 1-1 by routing Iona, 17-6, today in non-league women’s lacrosse.

Sam Tulskie (Springfield-Delco), Jackie Roebuck (Marple Newtown) and Taylor Ruland (one assist) each added two goals for the Explorers while Nora McGurkin (Penn Charter) had a goal and an assist. Megan Corliss (Archbishop Carroll) made seven saves to net the win in goal.

Drexel 14, St. Joseph’s 2

The Dragons improved to 2-0 by thumping the Hawks (0-1) in a cross-town rivalry game. Alyse Maiden led Drexel with three goals and two assists while Charlotte Wood (Conestoga) had three goals and an assist. Lindsey Kovar added two goals while Jaclyn Klunder (Conestoga) and Katie Blazer each had a goal and an assist.

Jen Peters led St. Joe’s with two goals.

Rutgers 11, Temple 10

The Owls opened with a loss to the Scarlet Knights.

Sophomore Charlotte Swavola (Cheltenham) scored four goals for Temple while junior Kelsey Zenuk (St. Mark’s, DE)scored two goals and tallied two assists. Junior goalkeeper Tess Bishop made seven saves in her first career start. Also for the Owls, Steph Parcell (Interboro), Missy Schweitzer (Owen J. Roberts) and Karly Cohen had a goal and an assist each.

American 17, George Washington 8

Bernadette Maher (Council Rock North) had three goals and Lisa Schaff (Perkiomen Valley) added two assists to help American (1-0).

Sarah Phillips (Downingtown West) led GW (1-2) with three goals.
