Six Philly boys were among the 42 players that began workouts this morning in the ESPN RISE Warrior 40, a skills invitational.

The event features many of the top underclassmen lacrosse players in the country. The players arrived Thursday in Boston and will work out in Cambridge’s Harvard Stadium today with training from pro players. They also will participate in a skills competition, with help from Major League Lacrosse players.

The entire ESPN RISE event is being held in conjuncture with the MLL All-Star Game Weekend. The players will be introduced at halftime of the game Saturday night at Harvard.

On Thursday the players were split into two teams, Blue and Orange for the scrimmage later in the two-day event..

The Blue team features Haverford School midfielder Sam Rohr (committed to Penn), Abington attackman Ryan Ambler (Princeton), Salesianum School defenseman Justin Verratti (Loyola) and Malvern Prep defenseman Eddie Morris (Johns Hopkins) while the Orange team features Bishop Shanahan defenseman Chris Panichelli (Drexel) and Conestoga attackman Tyler Brooke (Maryland). Also on the Orange team is Garden City (N.Y.) midfielder Patric Berkery (Penn).

Rohr, who helped Haverford School finish 23-0 and receive a No. 1 rankings in every poll, said he was “completely blown away” with the way the players are being treated by ESPN.

The players are being put up in the ritzy Hyatt Regency in Cambridge and Thursday night they ate in the spectacular Charles Ballroom overlooking the Charles River.

The players were slated to have a practice this morning at 10:30 and then the scrimmage in the afternoon. The coaches are all pros; one will be Ridley grad Bill McGlone of the Denver Outlaws.

Players also will get to meet more MLL All-Stars at a special party tonight. They

“It’s unbelievable,” said Rohr. “I feel so privileged I made this made team. All the players are great guys and it’s going to be incredible playing with and against this competition.

“Just that would be enough for me, but to get to meet the MLL All-Stars and get introduced at the All-Star Game is an incredible opportunity.’

Rosters are below.

ESPN will be broadcasting a two-hour special from the event on Sunday at 9-11pm ET on ESPNU. The MLL All Star Game can be seen Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN 2 and ESPN3.com.
