Six Philly boys are playing this morning in a scrimmage before dozens of college coaches at Harvard Stadium as the ESPN RISE Warrior 40 kicks into its final day of a special three-day event featuring many of the top male underclassmen lacrosse players in the country.
On Friday, Bishop Shanahan rising senior Chris Panichelli scored the best time among all defensemen in the agility competition (10.53 seconds). The players had to work through an obstacle course by picking up groundballs, changing directions and making multiple turns in a shuttle run.
Final Results, Agility Competition
Zack Fixen (Rolling Hills Estates, California, Maryland) 10.19 seconds
Chris Panichelli (West Chester/Bishop Shanahan, PA, Drexel) 10.53 seconds
Brian Sherlock (St. James, New York, North Carolina) 10.72 seconds
Danny Simonetti (Cold Spring Harbor, Navy) 11.19 seconds
Meanwhile, Haverford School rising senior midfielder Sam Rohr placed second in the trick shot competition. Ky Tarbell (Salmon River Central, NY) won it by climbing to the top of the stadium steps and putting in a shot.
In today’s scrimmage, the Blue team features Rohr (committed to Penn), Abington attackman Ryan Ambler (Princeton), Salesianum School defenseman Justin Verratti (Loyola) and Malvern Prep defenseman Eddie Morris (Johns Hopkins). The Orange team features Panichelli (Drexel) and Conestoga attackman Tyler Brooke (Maryland). Also on the Orange team is Garden City (N.Y.) midfielder Patric Berkery (Penn) while Foxborough (Mass.) goalie Greg Stamatov (Villanova) is on the Blue team.
Temperatures were in the low 80s under sunny skies as the game began at 10:30 a.m. Rohr, Ambler, Panichelli, Morris and Brooke were all in the starting lineups. Stamatov made an amazing end-to-end rush to score the first goal of the game for the Blue.
