Amanda Vos Strache has been named the head girls’ lacrosse coach at The Episcopal Academy, the school announced today.
Vos Strache, an Upper School history and English teacher, is a 1999 Episcopal Academy grad and served as an assistant coach this year for the varsity team as well as the EA field hockey team.
Vos Strache replaces Kim Piersall, who served as EA’s interim head coach this spring.
Before returning to EA, Vos Strache taught and coached in California. Prior to that, she was the head lacrosse coach at Morristown-Beard School in New Jersey and St. Mark’s School in Massachusetts.
While a student at Episcopal Academy, Vos Strache was captain of both the field hockey and lacrosse teams. She attended Stanford University where she focused on field hockey. She was captain of the field hockey team at Stanford in 2002, an Academic All-American, and was named to the Northern Pacific All-Conference Team in 1999, 2000 and 2002.
Vos Strache takes over one of the most successful programs in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Episcopal finished the 2011 season 17-4, won its seventh straight Inter-Ac League championship and the 11th in the last 12 years. EA also claimed the Pennsylvania Independent Schools title.
Over the past five years, more than two dozen EA student-athletes have gone on to play NCAA girls’ lacrosse at programs around the country. This year the team produced four Division I recruit and one Division III recruit – including Taylor Trimble (will play at Duke), the team captain of the United States U-19 team, Blake McHugh (NCAA champion Northwestern), Maggie Forker (Vanderbilt) and Claire MacManus (Cornell).
“We are all thrilled to move Amanda into the head coaching position,” said EA athletic director Gina Buggy. “She epitomizes everything we look for in our coaches – incredibly knowledgeable, very accomplished, and a phenomenal role model for our students both on the field and in the classroom.
“Her leadership will only make our program stronger. She is the quintessential teacher-counselor-coach.”
Vos Strache said, “It is a great honor for me to be named as the head coach of the [EA] girls’ lacrosse program. Having worked with the team this past season, I was impressed with their talents on and off the field, but it is their work ethic that sets them apart from the rest.
