Villanova men to compete in ‘Fall Brawl for a Cure’ at Chester’s PPL Park as highlight of Fall Ball season

The Villanova men’s lacrosse team returns to the playing field this fall for two events leading up to the 2012 spring season.

The Wildcats will participate in their first of two scrimmages on Friday, Oct. 7th when they head to Annapolis, Md. to face the Navy Midshipmen, who finished the 2011 season with a 4-9 overall record. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Rip Miller Field on the USNA campus.

The Wildcats will round out their fall schedule in the inaugural “Fall Brawl for a Cure” on Saturday, Oct. 22nd at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. Villanova will have the night billing in a 5 p.m. matchup against the Siena Saints and will be preceded by the Stony Brook vs. Loyola billing at 3 p.m. In addition to the collegiate action, a youth lacrosse tournament will kick off a day of lacrosse festivities beginning at 9 a.m. Proceeds from tickets sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society to support cancer research.

The Wildcats began fall practices earlier this week after making their first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and finished the season with an 11-5 overall record. Corrado returns 29 letterwinners in addition to four All-BIG EAST selections in seniors Chris Creighton (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep), Kevin Cunningham (Garden City, N.Y./Kellenberg) and Matt Bell (Severna Park, Md./St. Mary’s) and junior Jack Rice (Baltimore, Md./Boys’ Latin).
