Two more Philly players have been selected to participate in the prestigious ESPN RISE Warrior 40 competition, a three-day event featuring many of the top high school boys’ lacrosse underclassmen in the nation.
Conestoga rising senior Tyler Brooke (attackman) and Abington rising senior Ryan Ambler (attackman) will join four other rising seniors selected in the past few weeks – Will McNamara (long stick midfielder) and Sam Rohr (midfielder) of Haverford School, Eddie Morris (defenseman) of Malvern Prep and rising senior Justin Verratti (defenseman) of Salesianum School (DE) – in the competition July 7-9 at Harvard University.
McNamara, Rohr, Morris and Verratti were selected immediately after competing in the Mid-Atlantic region camp with over 100 others at Towson University. McNamara, despite being at a more defensive position, was named the Offensive MVP at the camp for his all-around skills and Morris was named the Defensive MVP. Brooke and Ambler were named today after each of the four camps were concluded.
Brooke had 35 goals and 17 this year and helped the Pioneers win their second straight Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championship and third straight District 1 title. He is committed to Maryland.
Ambler had 38 goals and 53 assists this year and earned All-Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association honors in helping the Ghosts win their fifth straight Suburban One National Conference title and advance to the District 1 quarterfinals. Ambler has committed to Princeton.
Regional tryout camps also were held at Hofstra University on Long Island and at Commerce City, Col. The final tryout session was held Monday at Harvard University for players from New England. Brooke and Ambler were added after the final tryout based on their performance in the Mid-Atlantic region camp.
The Warriors 40- in its second year – will be covered by ESPNU and ESPNRISE.com, Players receive expert instruction from top po and college players and later play in a game.
Players that went to the regional camps had to be recommended by coaches or chosen after sending in video highlight tapes.
Last year’s players included seven from Philly: Carl Walrath (now signed with Virginia), Brendan McGrath (Princeton) and Goran Murray (Maryland) of Haverford School, Joey Sankey (Penn Charter/North Carolina), Kevin Forster (La Salle/Maryland), Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum School/North Carolina) and Brian Dailey (Conestoga/Duke).
