Tuesday’s Suburban One boys’ roundup: Pennsbury, Abington gain easy National Conference wins

Calvin Hopkins (assist) and Ricky Jutkiewicz each scored four goals as host Pennsbury defeated Neshaminy, 11-2, Tuesday in Suburban One National Conference boys’ lacrosse action.

Andrew Probst chipped in five assists for the Falcons (7-4, 5-1) while midfielder Josh Caven won 7 of 10 faceoffs. Goalie Drew Sweetland stopped 11 shots, while his Redskin counterpart, Auston Marshall, turned aside 13 shots.

Abington 16, Council Rock South 3

The Ghosts rolled past CR South as they took a 12-1 lead at the half.

Ryan Ambler led the barrage with four goals and five assists, Brian Gallagher pumped in four goals and one assists, while Matt Figeuroa (two assists) and Matt Gormley chipped in two goals apiece. Goalie Eric Goldsborough turned aside 13 shots, while Travis O’Connor stopped six.

South received goals from Nick Gugliemi, Addletollen and Mitch Vaysman. Goalie Tim Brummer had 11 saves.

Council Rock North 8, Harry S Truman 2

Backup goalie Bob Grieda turned in a stellar performance with 11 saves for the Indians.

Brian Fitzpatrick and Chris Gifford contributed two goals apiece, while Jon Rinker, Drew Dispirito, Taylor Smigo and Tyler Shablin chipped in solo goals.

Central Bucks South 9, Souderton 8

After losing to the Indians 5-4 in the second league game of the year, C.B. South turned the tables in the second go-round as Tyler Cliggett broke an 8-8 deadlock with about a minute and a half on his second goal of the game and Luke Dachowski scored six goals.

Tyler Britton scored the Titans’ other goal, while goalie Ryan Kelly came up with 11 saves on 19 shots.

Souderton (5-6) (3-5) received three goals and an assist from freshman Cameron Trick, two goals and an assist from sophomore Tyler Macdougall, two goals from J.P. Carroll and one goal from Ridge Schultz. Bryan Ziegler added two assists and Grant Nice had 12 saves in goal.

Pennridge 11, North Penn 8

The Rams fell behind 5-4 at the half but took an 8-7 lead in the third quarter and claimed the Continental Conference win.

Goalie Ryan White (18 saves) came up big, especially late in the game and sophomore attackman Eric Fernandez notched five goals for Pennridge.

Upper Dublin 7, Upper Merion 3

The Cardinals led Upper Merion 5-0 into the fourth quarter behind standout defense and goaltending by Jack Deragon.

Offensively, Will Beury and Kyle Giordano scored a pair of goals, while Mike Rama added a goal and two assists.

Upper Merion’s three fourth-quarter goals came from Trevor Kupecky (two assists), Luc Minnich and Pat Vandergeest.
Viking goalie Conor Crowe was also strong with 13 saves.

Wissahickon 13, Norristown 6

Brooks Melvin led the Trojans with three goals and an assist. Tyler Crothers also pumped in three goals, while AJ Andersen and Matt Blank scored a pair each. Nick Altomare, Luke Gomez (assist) and Beau Gomez added single tallies.

For the Eagles, Jake Naseef and Jesse Prante each scored twice, while Sean Calhoun (assist) and Justin Roccia had one apiece.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 18, Upper Moreland 6

Colin Joka scored twice to set the Colonials’ all-time career scoring mark with 170 goals to keep PW undefeated in the American Conference.

Ryan Christensen led the Golden Bears with a pair of goals, with Nick Nolen, Talon Blickley, Dylan Giesler and Ellis Fatizzi chipping in single tallies.
