Thursday’s women’s roundup: West Chester topples Holy Family; Philadelphia U. falls

Shannon Hayes posted seven points and Jacki Patterson (Brandywine, DE) scored a hat trick to lead No. 6 West Chester to an 18-3 victory over visiting Holy Family today in a non-league women’s lacrosse match at Vonnie Gros Field on a warm and comfortable St. Patrick’s Day.

West Chester (3-1) received goals from 11 different players while six scored more than once. Holy Family (1-3) dropped its third game in its first four contests.

Jackie Hoover (Cheltenham), Tori Dugan (Bayard Rustin), Nicole Pyle, Kelsey McGoldrick (Haverford High) and Julia Walsh (West Chester East) each tallied twice for the Golden Rams. West Chester rattled off 11 unanswered markers to break open a 5-2 contest midway through the first half. The Rams got six of those goals before halftime to take an 11-2 advantage.

Patterson sparked the rally with a pair of goals19 second apart. She would later finish off the hat trick in the second half with a tally that put the Rams up 13-2. Both of Dugan’s goals came during the run as well.

Lauren Glassey (Henderson) provided a flare for the dramatics with a behind-the-back goal at the 17-minute mark. McGoldrick finished up the scoring on the afternoon with the last two tallies of the game.

Holy Family’s Jennifer James (Little Flower) scored twice and Stephanie McNesby (Archbishop Ryan) scored the other. However, the story of the day for the Tigers was the play of goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Interboro). She recorded 19 saves in the loss.

West Chester’s MacKenzie O’Keefe (Downingtown East) posted three saves in the first half while Jess Henderson came on in the second half and made five saves.

Kutztown 12, Philadelphia University 10, OT

Kelsey Hogan scored three goals to lead Kutztown (3-1).

PhilaU (1-2) was led by freshman attack Emily Ray and junior attack Taylor Peltzer (Archbishop Wood), who each had two goals and an assist. Caribeth Shappell added two goals.

Division III

Gwynedd Mercy 17, Penn St.-Abington 2

Sophomore Morgan Hosler led the offense with four goals while junior Shannon Harmer (Nazareth Academy) added three scores and two assists as the Griffins led 14-1 after the first half.

Shannon Carabba (Springfield-M), Jenna D’Arcy (Hatboro-Horsham) and Jenna Gaydosh (Nazareth Academy) each added two goals apiece. Carabba and Gaydosh also chipped in two assists.

Katelyn Haas (Lower Moreland) netted both scores for the Lions (0-2).

Swathhmore 18, Immaculata 2

Annelise Mowry and Annalise Penikis (Strath Haven) each scored four goals while Corinne Sommi had three goals and four assists as the Garnet improved to 4-1.

Emily Hallett scored both goals for the Mighty Macs (0-2).
