Two-time defending champion Team Harley has advanced to the finals of the Grand Master’s “A” (Warrior) Division of the 10th annual Florida Lacrosse Classic in Fort Lauderdale.
The Philly-based squad, seeded No. 1, toppled fourth-seeded Slo Mos, 11-8 in the semifinals today. Team Harley, sponsored by Hannum’s Harley-Davidson, will meet No. 5 seed Elder Statesmen Sunday in the title game at noon. The Elder Statesmen defeated No. 2 seed Atlantic Sportswear, 12-7 in the semis.
Also Saturday, Philly-based team HEADstrong continued to be one of the surprise squads of the tournament. Team HEADstrong, which came in as the No. 9 seed, toppled Faber College, 12-5, and is 2-1 in the tourney.
Team HEADstrong had taken Team Harley to overtime on Friday, falling, 6-5. It also downed Checkmate Lacrosse, 7-6, in overtime. Team HEADstrong will play Sunday in the fifth-place game.
Team Harley also downed Checkmate Lacrosse, 6-4, in preliminary action.
In the half Century Division, the Philly-based Grey Eagles are 0-4.
The Florida Lacrosse Classic benefits youth lacrosse programs throughout the state.
