Senior Kyle Engel scored two goals, sophomore goalie Dan Willis made eight saves and Moorestown used standout defense Thursday night as the Quakers completed a stunning run through the Group 3 tournament by upsetting Ridge, 7-3, in the state title game at Watchung Hills High School.
Moorestown (13-7), which upset Ridgewood, 8-2, in the semifinals, jumped to a 3-1 first-period lead and held Ridge scoreless until the fourth period while passing the lead to 6-1.
The Quakers advance to the Tournament of Champions semifinals on Tuesday.
Senior Tim Mouton added a goal and two assists while junior Alex Martinelli (committed to Delaware), Mike Angeleri, Mike Handlen and Chad Gamble also scored once each.
In their last two games, Moorestown beat No. 1 seed Ridgewood and No. 2 seed Ridge by a combined score of 15-5.
Moorestown has won its last five games by a margin of 57-21 since losing, 11-1, to undefeated and nationally-rated No. 1 Haverford School on May 12.
Delbarton 10, St. Augustine 4
The second-seeded Hermits (17-5) fell in the title game despite two goals from Mike Sutton and one each from Steve Pontrello and Nikko Pontrello.
