Junior Halley Barnes had seven goals and one assist as Garnet Valley outscored Penn Manor, 8-2, in the opening half and claimed a 16-6 victory today in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) tournament at Gov. Mifflin High in Shillington.
The Jaguars (23-3) will meet the winner of today’s game between Ches-Mont League foes Downingtown East and Great Valley in the PIAA title game Saturday at HersheyPark Stadium at 1 p.m.
Garnet Valley scored five unanswered goals early in the game to seize a 5-1 lead. Penn Manor (20-5), the third-place finisher from District 3, later rallied and trailed only, 8-5, with 19:11 to play in the game after Alicia Burns scored her second goal. But the Jaguars dominated the rest of the game.
“Our game today wasn’t the prettiest lacrosse we have ever played, but the girls overcame the heat and a slow start by relying on one another on the field,” said Garnet Valley coach Kate Henwood. “It feels so great to know that all of our hard work is showing tangible results.
“We are very excited to face a familiar opponent.”
Haley Warden scored three goals to help the Jaguars’ attack while Ally Heavens and AnnaElise Morello each had two goals and three assists. Ashley Pyle scored twice and Gabby Murray added one goals while Kara Stroup dished two assists.
Kate Stroup had a strong game in the goal with 12 saves.
Maddy Hess also scored two goals for Penn Manor.
Garnet Valley, the Central League quad-champion, was the District 1 runner-up.
