PIAA girls’ lacrosse: McBride tally in OT lifts Great Valley past previously-undefeated Manheim Township, 13-12

Sara McBride scored off a feed from Ali Karwoski as Great Valley topped previously-undefeated Manheim Township, 13-12. today in overtime in a thrilling Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) first-round girls’ lacrosse playoff at Cumberland Valley High in Mechanicsburg.

The Patriots (20-3), the fourth seed from District 1, advance to play District 1 third seed Springfield-Delco in the second round Saturday at a site and time to be determined. Springfield-Delco advanced by routing Emmaus, 17-3.

Karwoski led the Pats with four goals and two assists and McBride added three goals and two assists while Emily Scullin scored three goals.

Carolyn Westphal led District 3 champion Manheim Township (23-1) with three goals and two assists while Molly Hendrick had three goals.

Great Valley led, 12-9, with 11 minutes to play, but the Blue Streaks tied it with three consecutive goals to force OT.
