More than 200 men’s college lacrosse coaches are expected to attend the Philly Showcase this weekend as the lacrosse world descends upon Philadelphia in what has emerged as the fall’s largest recruiting event.
As of Friday, 157 colleges had registered to attend the event which kicked off Friday night with the Logan Schweiter Benefit at St. Joseph’s University. More than 70 college coaches attended that event as three Philly club teams – the Duke’s L.C., HEADstrong and Mesa Fresh 2013 – and New Jersey’s Leading Edge played to help raise more than $4,000 for the NTAF Traumatic Brain Injury Fund in honor of the 12-year-old Conestoga Youth Lacrosse player who suffered serious trauma from a drowning incident this summer.
Today at Episcopal Academy (see overall schedule), more than 460 sophomores and juniors will compete in the first full day of the Showcase. (Click here for index rosters). On Sunday, another 78 uncommitted seniors (Click for rosters) will compete.
Also Sunday, 36 teams from the East Coast and beyond will compete in the Philly Invitational – occurring simultaneously with the Senior Showcase. Top club teams from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, New England and Canada will be competing. (Click here for schedule.)
Overall, it’s a smorgasbord of lacrosse never before seen in the region.
