Four Philly grads played roles as Salisbury routed Tufts, 19-7, for the Sea Gulls’ ninth Division III national championship front of 18,086 Sunday evening at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
Senior defenseman and co-captain Nick Mooney – an Honorable Mention All-American from Interboro – led the defense as Salisbury avenged a 9-6 loss to the Jumbos in last year’s title game. Also on the starting defensive unit was junior Chad Surman (Southern Lehigh).
Junior attackman Kyle Quist (Central Bucks East) scored once for the Sea Gulls and senior goalie Tim Swinburn (Strath Haven) played the final 12:35 of the game and made 3 saves.
Also on the Salisbury roster are junior defenseman Jeff Hoffman (Perkiomen Valley), sophomore defenseman Bryan Dacey (Central Bucks West) and freshman attackman Chris Brady (Neshaminy).
Salisbury finished 21-1. The Sea Gulls also won national titles in 1994, ’95, ’99, ’03, ’04, ’05, ’07, and ’08.
