Team Philly rebounded from a disappointing 6-5 loss to Georgia by winning two key games today over Washington D.C., 7-4, and Syracuse, 6-3, and earn a berth in the quarterfinals in the National Lacrosse Classic in Germantown, Md.
Trevor Kupecky (Upper Merion) scored twice to lead Philly (3-1) in the victory over D.C. Will Black (Germantown Academy) added a goal and two assists. Matt Savage (Allentown Central Catholic) had a goal and an assist and Matt Figueroa (Abington) and Steve Mussoline (Allentown Central Catholic) each scored once. Both goalies, Andrew Sabia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Drew Sweetland (Pennsbury) were strong in the cage.
Philly led most of the game against Georgia, but allowed its foe to tie it late in the game and win it with 15 seconds in regulation.
Mike Pettit (Salesianum School) led Philly with two goals while Sean Irvine (Malvern Prep) and Jeremy Omrod (Holy Ghost Prep) each scored once. Brett Incollingo (Holy Ghost Prep) won four of five face-offs.
Philly, the No. 6 seed heading into the playoffs, will meet No. 3 Washington D.C. at 9 a.m. Friday in the quarters. Other matchups are: (1) Rochester vs, (8) Florida, (2) New Jersey vs. (7) New England; and (4) MD Public vs. (5) East.
The three-day event is expected to draw over 100 coaches.
