Two Philly members of the US women’s U19 team, Downingtown East’s Allie Murray (goalie) and Episcopal Academy’s Taylor Trimble (midfielder), will compete in the sixth annual Champion® Challenge Jan. 29–30 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The event, organized by US Lacrosse, will feature the U.S. men’s national lacrosse team, the U.S. women’s national senior and U19 teams, the Notre Dame University’s men’s lacrosse team, the Maryland University women’s lacrosse team, the University of Virginia women’s lacrosse team, the University of Jacksonville (Fla.) women’s lacrosse team and Rollins (Fla.) College women’s lacrosse team.

Two of the games will air on ESPNU. The U.S. men’s national team vs. Notre Dame will air Sunday, Jan. 30 at 10 p.m. The U.S. women’s national team vs. Maryland will air Monday, Jan. 31 at 12 a.m.

“This is a true Champion Challenge, with a three U.S. national teams having won the gold in their respective World Games, while Maryland is the standing 2010 NCAA women’s lacrosse champion and Notre Dame, a 2010 NCAA runner-up on the men’s side,” said Steve Stenersen, president and CEO of US Lacrosse. “This will be an exciting weekend of the best lacrosse in the world, plus the educational events such as the youth clinics and sports psychology talk for parents are not to be missed.”

Trimble and Murray were chosen last summer for the squad, which will compete in the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) U19 World Championships in Hanover, Germany.

Trimble, a two-time winner of the Heather Leigh Albert award for the top player at the US Lacrosse National Tournament, was an All-Phillylacrosse.com pick last year and led EA to its sixth straight Inter-Ac League crown.

Trimble, who has signed a Letter of Intent to play at Duke, also was named as the No. 2 senior in the nation by ESPN RISE and was one of the top 10 Young Guns in Inside Lacrosse’s listing of the top rising seniors during the summer. Trimble had 70 goals and 30 assists last year.

Murray, who has signed with Notre Dame, also was an All-Phillylacrosse.com pick last year when she led the Cougars to a fifth-place finish in the District 1 tournament and a berth in the state tournament. She played on the Philly Under Armour team at the UA Underclassmen Games in the summer.

The U.S. men’s national team will face off against Notre Dame, while the U.S. senior women’s national team will play Maryland and Virginia. The U.S. U19 women’s team will take on Jacksonville and Rollins.

Tickets will be sold at the event at the ESPN Wide World of Sports lacrosse ticket gate.
