Abington rising senior defenseman Chris Duffy has made a verbal commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Hartford University.
Duffy helped the Ghosts claim their fifth straight undefeated Suburban One National Conference championship and advance to the District 1 quarterfinals in 2011. He earned First Team league honors and was named the defensive MVP at Abington.
Duffy, who plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club and the Wet Bandits, was a Gait Fab 40 pick at the Philly Showcase last year.
Duffy, who is on the Honor Roll, plans to major in law, but remains undecided.
“My visit went really well,” he said. “I loved the campus and the athletic facilities. Coach (Peter) Lawrence is great and he’s building a great team. The policies he uses to coach his players suit me really well not only as a player, but as a person too.”
Hartford claimed the America East championship last year under Lawrence, finishing 11-7 overall while advancing to the NCAA tournament.
Duffy is optimistic that Abington can retain the league championship and make a run at a state berth in 2012.
“This year I would like to see us remain undefeated in the Suburban One National for four years of varsity play and I would like to advance to the state playoffs,” said Duffy.
