Mount St. Mary’s was crowned the first-ever Northeast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Champion under sunny skies at the Mountaineers’ home turf at Waldron Family Stadium.
The Mount (9-6) defeated Quinnipiac, 14-9, using a four-goal spurt to widen its lead as the clock dwindled down through the final eight minutes of regulation.
Midfielder Daniel Stranix (Ridley) played a key role for the Mount (7-7) by contributing a goal and an assist. For Quinnipiac, Jack Oppenheimer (Germantown Academy) had a goal and an assist and was named to the all-tournament team.
Oppenheimer had a career game in the semifinals when he scored five goals, including a natural hat trick in the final 2:50 of regulation to lift Quinnipiac into the finals Friday in a 12-11 thriller over Robert Morris.
