The duo of freshman Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) and sophomore Dan Wigrizer (Haverford School) have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet, respectively.
Wolf and Wigrizer earned their first career conference weekly awards after helping lead the Blue Devils to a thrilling 9-8 overtime win over No. 3 Maryland over the weekend.
An attackman, Wolf netted his career’s first three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead all Duke scorers against the Terrapins. Wolf tallied his third goal of the game 1:01 into overtime to lift the Blue Devils to a 9-8 victory. He also picked up three ground balls.
In goal, Wigrizer was outstanding as he helped anchor a defense that held Maryland’s starting attack unit without a goal and to just 10 shots overall. The second-year goaltender matched his career high with 17 saves, including 10 in the second half, to post his first victory over Maryland. The 17 saves marked the second straight game in which Wigrizer has made double digit saves. He currently ranks second in the ACC in save percentage (.609) and goals against average (8.26).
