The Lehigh men’s lacrosse team – buoyed by a number of Philly players – was ranked as the No. 36 team by Inside Lacrosse in its online preseason countdown to No. 1.

The Mountain Hawks of coach Kevin Cassese won five of their last seven games last year to finish 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Patriot League. With the strong finish and a host of key returnees, there is much optimism for the 2011 season.

Inside Lacrosse article highlights:

The Lehigh attack – which returns nearly intact – will be paced by sophomores Dante Fantoni (26G, 14A) and David DiMaria (9G, 24A) at attack and all-Patriot junior Cameron Lao-Gosney (22G, 8A) and senior captain Richard Bradley at midfield.

The 2011 breakout player could be junior midfielder Roman Lao-Gosney, Cameron’s twin, who has been held back slightly by injuries.

In goal, sophomore Dan Carr (Penn Charter) is back and should be an anchor for the defense, which includes junior Blaise Fullen (Penn Charter) and freshman Ty Souders (Emmaus), tabbed as a starter by Cassese and a rookie to watch. Also listed as a rookie to watch was freshman attackman Matt Smith (Conestoga).
