More than 7,000 people and perfect sunny weather are expected to greet 19 men’s lacrosse teams this weekend when the HEADstrong Foundation hosts the 5th annual Nick Colleluori Classic at Ridley High.

Nine teams – including St. Joseph’s and Lehigh – will participate in the Division I day Saturday as action begins at 9:30 a.m. on the turf and grass fields. On Sunday, one Division II team (Chestnut Hill College) and nine Division III squads (including Philly’s Neumann, Eastern, Ursinus, Widener and Albright) will compete.

The event raises money and awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation’s fight against blood cancer in the name of Nick Colleluori, the former Ridley great who passed away five years ago after a 14-month bout with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while playing at Hofstra University.

Once again, each team will have an honorary captain, a person that has dealt with blood cancer in some way.

The event has helped the HEADstrong Foundation raise more than $1 million dollars for blood cancer research and development. More than 120 volunteers will help run the tourney, which also features a bone marrow drive.

The schedule and admission prices are below.

HEADstrong President Cheryl Colleluori, Nick’s mother, will speak during the intermission presentation on both days at 2:10 p.m. Colleluori last week introduced “Nick’s House,” a new headquarters for the Foundation and free home to families that travel to Philly while their loved one is being treated for blood cancer.

On Sunday, Delaware County cable provider RCN-TV8 will be televising the Widener vs. Neumann game on a tape delay. The contest begins at 12:30 PM on the Grass Field and the broadcast will air on RCN-TV8 at 9:00 PM Sunday night.

Cabrini College Assistant Coach Kyle Garzia will be providing Color Commentary for the broadcast, alongside RCN-TV8 Play-by-Play Announcer Dan Mowdy.

After the Widener vs. Neumann game, the RCN-TV8 Film Crew will be relocating to the Ridley High School Stadium, to film the HEADstrong Presentation at 2:10 PM.

Cheryl Colleluori, known throughout the lacrosse world for her emotional speeches and desire to maintain Nick’s legacy, said, “I can’t believe it’s been five years.

“We want to share Nick’s story and raise awareness. I want to let everyone know what’s in my heart. I have said this before: Nick is my inspiration and the lacrosse community is our encouragement.”
