The La Salle women’s lacrosse team will begin its quest for the 2011 Atlantic 10 title with a game against Delaware on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.

The Explorers, picked to finish third in the A-10 Coaches’ Poll, return eight starters from last year’s 9-7 squad. A strong freshmen class will also be competing for spots in the starting lineup.

“I think we have more experience than we did last year,” head coach Candace Taglianetti (Haverford High) said. “We know what it feels like to win. We can be in those tight situations and pull out on top.”

Delaware travels to McCarthy Stadium with one game already under its belt. The Blue Hens, under new head coach Kateri Linville, lost to pre-season No. 1 Maryland, 17-8, on Wednesday.

This will be the first-ever meeting between La Salle and Delaware, who was picked to finish fifth in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
