game MVP Keith Dreyer scored four goals as Malvern Prep defeated Penn Charter, 6-4, in the semifinals of the Inter-Ac Invitational today at Cabrini College.
The second-seeded Friars (14-5) advance to play arch-rival Haverford School – a 13-11 winner over Lawrenceville School – in the championship on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Cabrini.
In this intense and physical game, defense held true throughout the battle, T.J. Hanzsche added one goal and two assists for Malvern Prep and senior defenseman Wes Pancoast played a standout game, holding All-American attackman Joey Sankey to one goal.
“I tried to not throw too many checks while keeping my hands on him,” said Pancoast. “I bodied him up. We are excited to play Haverford School in the final.”
Senior face-off specialist Drew Kennedy also dominated the face-off X, winning 11 of 13 and adding an assist.
“I timed the whistle well and calmed myself down during the second half,” he said. “The wing guys played very well.”
Sophomore Matt Barrett made eight saves in the second half and senior Ryan McDevitt had five saves in the first half. Jake Glancy added one goal.
For Penn Charter (12-11), junior goalie Jackson Tamasitis was brilliant in the first half and collected 17 saves.
Tyler White had two goals while Ray Vandergrift added one for the Quakers.
