The Hurricanes (2-0, 2-0) led, 2-1, at halftime and got several key saves from goalie Heather Mazur (six stops). Samantha Ostoich and Carolyn Greisser also scored for Villa Maria.

“This win means a lot to the Villa Maria program,” said Hurricanes first-year coach Jess Chadwin. “We set the bar pretty high and now we have to follow through and work even harder.

“We played great. We played like a team; a unit. Our goalie stepped up and the defense jelled.”
