Caleigh Foust (five goals) scored the game-winner in overtime as host Harriton claimed a thrilling 14-13 victory over Radnor today in Central League girls’ lacrosse, dealing the Red Raiders their first league loss of the year.
Radnor falls to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the league while the Rams improve to 13-2 overall and 6-2 in the league.
Harriton raced out to a 7-0 lead early in the game, but the Raiders rallied to take a 9-8 edge. The Rams later seized a 13-12 lead, but Radnor’s Shannon Quinn sent it into overtime with a goal with 38 seconds to play.
Foust, who won Saturday’s game with Unionville with a late goal, made a strong move after Carli Sukonik (four goals) won a draw and raced down the left side of the field before cutting inside and shooting while diving toward the goal.
Harriton has now defeated all three of last year’s Central League tri-champions – Radnor, Springfield-Delco and Strath Haven. The Rams had not defeated Radnor since 1982.
Jackie Marshall was a key in the cage for Harriton, posting 13 saves. Laura Walzer added three goals for the Rams and Betsy Hurtado had a goal and an assist while Megan Rubenstein scored once and Jess Schwab had three assists.
Taryn Deck led Radnor with four goals and one assist while Quinn and Lindsay Grossman each scored twice.
