A Mass will be held for Edward “Eddie” Coombs, 19, of Horsham, on Wednesday at noon at St. Catherine of Siena Church at 321 Witmer Road, Horsham.
Friends and family may call at 10 a.m. at the church
Mr. Coombs, a standout lacrosse player at Hatboro-Horsham and at Marist college (N.Y.). passed away Saturday morning after being involved in a one-car crash in Horsham Township.. A high school teammate, Robert W. Nagel, 19, of Ambler, also was killed in the accident.
Mr. Coombs was described as a by his high school coach Dave Sowers as a leader and the heartbeat of a team that won a league championship and advanced to the state tournament in 2010. Coombs was to begin his sophomore season at Marist College (N.Y.).
It is the wish of Rebel Elite, his club lacrosse team, to honor Mr. Coombs by starting an “Edward Coombs Memorial Scholarship” in which funds collected would be awarded to a graduating Rebel Elite player that has displayed the traits of academic success, athletic achievement, and community service – all of which were attributes of Eddie. The scholarship is to be used to help defray costs of college expenses.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to scholarship. Individual and corporate gifts are welcomed.
