Friday’s women’s roundup: La Salle wins in OT behind 8 goals from Sarcinello (Marple Newtown)

Sophomore Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) had a breakout performance, scoring eight goals Friday against host Davidson, including the game-winner, as the Explorers defeated the Wildcats in overtime, 14-12.

Taylor Ruland and Samantha Tulskie (Springfield-Delco) each added a pair of goals, while Nora McGurkin (Penn Charter) and Allison Herman (North Penn) each notched one for La Salle. Megan Corliss (Archbishop Carroll) made eight saves in goal.

La Salle (4-2) tallied the first four goals of the game, with three of them coming from Sarcinello. The Explorers maintained an 8-4 lead going into the half.

Herman opened scoring in the second half for the Explorers, but then the Wildcats went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 9-all with 9:03 remaining to play.
The contest was back and forth from there, with Sarcinello adding the tying goal with less than a minute in regulation to send the game into overtime.

It was Sarcinello who would break the tie in overtime with an unassisted shot with 3:27 to play. Ruland added one more goal for La Salle before the game was over.

William and Mary 12, Oregon 8

Kyrstin Mackrides (Villa Maria Academy) had three goals and an assist and goalie Emily Geary (Radnor) made nine saves to lead the win for the No. 18 Tribe (3-1).

Monmouth 6, Binghamton 4

Molly O’Brien (Unionville) had a goal and an assist for Monmouth.

Northwestern 19, Cal 8

Defender Colleen Magarity (Germantown Academy) had three groundballs and a caused turnover for the 6-0 Wildcats.

Columbia 12, Iona 8

Olivia Mann (Germantown Academy) tallied four goals for Columbia.

Division III
Colby-Sawyer 17 Gwynedd-Mercy 13

Colleen Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) paced Gwynedd Mercy in defeat.

Dickinson 18, Cabrini 3

Kelsey Muir (Academy of Notre Dame) had two goals and Jessie Clark (Conestoga) made six saves to lead the Devils to the win.

Chrissy Pasquariello (Harriton) had two goals for Cabrini.

Swarthmore 19, Wooster 8

Annelise Mowry poured in five goals, Emily Evans and Marie Mutryn each had four and Annalise Penikis (Strath Haven) had three goals and three assists to lead the Garnet to victory.

Scranton 17, Elmira College 7

Katie Slade (Central Bucks East) scored four goals, Deanna Giorno (Central Bucks South) tallied three goals Kaitlin Lazorko (Nazareth Academy) had two goals and two assists and Kristin Pickell (Wissahickon) scored once to pace the Royals to the win.
