Four Philly players have been named to participate in the prestigious ESPN RISE Warrior 40 competition, a three-day event featuring many of the top high school boys’ lacrosse underclassmen in the nation.
The players selected are rising seniors Will McNamara (long stick midfielder) and Sam Rohr (midfielder) of Haverford School, rising senior Eddie Morris (defenseman) of Malvern Prep and rising senior Justin Verratti (defenseman) of Salesianum School (DE).
The players were selected after competing in a regional tryout camp Thursday with over 100 others at Towson University for the Mid-Atlantic region (Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky). Two other regional tryouts also were held at Hofstra University on Long Island and at Commerce City, Col. The final tryout session will be held Monday at Harvard University for players from New England or others who have tried out before.
Entering its second year, the Warrior 40 event will be held July 7-9 at Harvard University. At the event, which will be covered by ESPNU and ESPNRISE.com, players receive expert instruction from top pro and college players and later play in a game.
Players that went to the regional camps had to be recommended by coaches or chosn after sending in video highlight tapes.
Last year’s players included seven from Philly: Carl Walrath (now signed with Virginia), Brendan McGrath (Princeton) and Goran Murray (Maryland) of Haverford School, Joey Sankey (Penn Charter/North Carolina), Kevin Forster (La Salle/Maryland), Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum School/North Carolina) and Brian Dailey (Conestoga/Duke).
