The 5th annual Evanfest lacrosse festival – postponed due to excessive rain last month – will be held on Sunday at Malvern Prep.
The event, featuring 26 youth boys’ teams (U-13 and U-15) from the region, begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. on five fields.
Evanfest raises money for families dealing with a child that has a life-threatening illness. It is played in honor of Evan Brady, a standout lacrosse player who attended Malvern Prep and died at the age of 19 in 2006 from osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer).
Already, more than $400,000 has been raised from the event, which has helped over 100 families. The foundation also has been helped by donations and several fund-raising projects, including the sales of Evanfest t-shirts by Mr. Brady’s friends now in college, the Evanfest Bowling Night (two have been held), a Beef and Beer and the inaugural Evanfest golf event. All funds go directly to the families in need.
The largest contingent of former Evanfest and Malvern Prep lacrosse players is expected at this year event. There also will be a large amount of raffle items, including those donated by Maverick, Warrior & Lax International.
Evanfest also has launched a new and improved website at evanfest.com.
