Kelly Cross collected five goals and four assists and Brooke Callahan had five goals as visiting Upper Dublin earned a 13-9 victory over North Penn today in a District 1 girls’ second-round game.
The ninth-seeded Cardinals (16-4) advanced to the quarterfinals to meet top-seeded Downingtown East Saturday at West Chester East at noon.
The eighth-seeded Maidens finished at 18-2.
The Cards took a 4-0 lead early on and never trailed. Emily Hitchings had two goals and an assist and and Kaley Weinstein scored once.
“It was the biggest win since I’ve been coaching Upper Dublin,” said fifth-year coach Dee Cross. “As far as I know, Upper Dublin has not gone this far in at least 10 years.
“The effort was unbelievable. The girls just decided today was not going to be their last day. It was a great team effort and a great win.”
Rachel Shaw scored four goals for the Maidens while Macie Houck had three goals and two assists and Brenda McDermott had three goals.
