In support of a fallen former teammate, the Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse team will be participating in the TEAM EC/RN 5K RUN/WALK which will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, at the Hatboro-Horsham High School Stadium.

The event is in memory of Edward Coombs and Robert W. Nagel who tragically lost their lives in a car accident in August. All proceeds will go to the Edward Coombs Foundation.

Edward Coombs was a 2009 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School who went on to play NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse at Marist College. Coombs had a standout freshman season for the Red Foxes; recording 25 ground balls, 16 caused turnovers, and a goal in 14 games. He was a 2010 All-Suburban One Continental Conference midfielder, who helped the Hatters to an 18-6 record and a share of the league title with Central Bucks East as well as a state playoff berth.

Two Current Griffins, freshman midfielder Ryan Hildebrand (Hatboro-Horsham) and sophomore attack Kevin Sonderschafer (Central Bucks South) are two of several Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse players who knew Edward Coombs and Robert W. Nagel.

Sonderschafer offered the following on the loss of his friends, “Growing up with both of these guys, they were reliable friends and really hard workers.” Hildebrand added, “I am really thankful to my teammates and coaches for supporting this cause, founded by my former teammates and friends.”

“This opportunity presented itself and we felt it was a great opportunity for our lacrosse family to support a few of our own guys when they were hurting from such a tragic loss,” added CHC head coach Brian Dougherty
