With the close of the 2011 season only a month ago, the Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse program has wasted no time preparing for their 2012 campaign by announcing their recruits for 2011-12.

Introducing the next installment of Griffin lacrosse, Head Coach Brian Dougherty said, “We are very excited to have a recruiting class of such great caliber coming to Chestnut Hill College this fall. We have brought in some tremendous athletes from six different states and we expect them to significantly improve our team in 2012.”

The recruits:

Frankie Barone (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) – Attack
As a junior at Middle Township High School, Barone ranked fourth on the Panthers in goals (22) and points (35). He is a proud member of his local Italian American Club and maintained a 3.9 GPA as a three-year lacrosse letter winner.

Frankie Berry – (Mission Viejo, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) – Defense/LSM
Berry is a two-year captain and All-Trinity League player at Santa Margarita Catholic High School; earning him the “Iron Eagle Award”, for a passionate desire to be the best, as a junior and senior.

Duddy is the first US Lacrosse High School All-American recruited to Chestnut Hill College, having earned the honor during his Ocean County Player of the Year campaign in 2009. He comes to the Griffins by way of Brookdale Community College where he led the Jersey Blues to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX titles and earned himself the 2011 NJCAA Region XIX Player of the Year title. He totaled 120 points over the past two seasons with the Jersey Blues.

He was also a member of the National Honor Society and received the Principle’s Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

A hard working defenseman, Jones served as team captain at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He transferred there from former New Hampshire State Champion Exeter High School.

D.J. Klusaritz – (Slatington, PA/Parkland/Onondaga CC) – Midfield
Klusaritz returns to Chestnut Hill College after spending one season at Onondaga Community College (OCC) in Syracuse, New York. As a freshman in 2010, he was second on the Griffins in points-per-game (2.25).

Chris Mertens – (Freeport, NY/Baldwin) – Midfield/Attack
A tremendous athlete, Mertens captained Baldwin High School’s football and lacrosse teams, while also competing on the wrestling team. He earned All-Nassau County status in all three sports. Mertens also played club lacrosse with For the Love of the Game out of Massapequa, New York.

Thomas Pontius – (Lititz, PA/Warwick) – Midfield

Kevin Wheaton – (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) – Midfield
Wheaton is an athletic and intelligent player that will help to strengthen the midfield on both sides of the ball. He was an All-Cape Atlantic Honorable Mention as a junior and served as the Panthers team captain as a senior. Wheaton also competes for the South Jersey Shamrocks Lacrosse Club.
