Tri-State Black (N.J.) ended the five-year hold on the championship of the prestigious Champ Camp boys’ club tournament today by defeating the Philly power, 9-6, at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood field.
Tri-State finished the tourney a perfect 9-0. It also took down Dukes 2, 9-6, in the semifinals.
Dukes 1 had a 52-game win streak at Champ Camp, considered my may to be the top recruiting tourney each summer. This year’s field included a GotSkillz team that had more than 20 All-Americans from as many as seven states. That team fell to Long Island 1 in the quarterfinals and then Dukes 1 dispatched of Long Island 1, 10-4, in the semifinals.
For a young Dukes 2 squad, it was a tough ending to an otherwise brilliant tourney. Comprised of many rising juniors and sophomores, Dukes 2 went 6-2 overall and advanced to at least the semis for a second straight year. Dukes 2 fell to Dukes 1 in last year’s all-Dukes L.C. final.
