Lehigh coach Kevin Cassese will serve as head coach and Chestnut Hill College mentor Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy) will be the assistant for Team USA on January 30 when it meets Notre Dame in an exhibition game (game begins at 1:30 p.m., on ESPNU, 10 p.m.) at the Champion Challenge at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Cassese also coached the U.S. National Team last time it was in action when it defeated Harvard, 17-12, as part of Stars and Stripes weekend in October. Cassese was a captain and Dougherty was the goalie for Team USA when it claimed the FIL World championship last summer in Manchester, England. The two also were teammates and Major League Lacrosse champions with the Philadelphia Barrage.

“I am excited to rejoin the U.S. National Team in the Champion Challenge exhibition game against Notre Dame,” Cassese said. “It was a lot fun working with the men who participated in the Stars and Stripes weekend at Harvard in the fall and I look forward to working with another terrific group of men next weekend in Orlando.

“It will be an honor to work with good friend and former U.S. teammate Brian Dougherty, as well as the first-class management team at US Lacrosse,” continued Cassese. “I have a tremendous sense of pride in our national team and in representing the Red, White and Blue. I look forward to leading a highly competitive group against the Irish next Sunday.”

The roster is very similar to the team Cassese coached against Harvard, which includes standouts like Steven Boyle, Max Quinzani and Matt Striebel. Dougherty will transition to the sidelines alongside Cassese, where he will serve as defensive coordinator. Overall, the roster also features three members of the gold medal-winning U.S. team and six players from the training team.
