Episcopal Academy senior midfielder Taylor Trimble has been named the captain of the United States Under-19 National team, head coach Krystin Porcella announced today.
Trimble will be joined by Downingtown East goalie Allie Murray when the US makes its way to Hannover, Germany, for the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) U19 World Championship in early August.
“It’s incredible; I feel so lucky,” said Trimble. “I e-mailed coach Porcella to say thank you and to tell the coaching staff that giving me the opportunity to be on the team and helping lead the team in Germany is just an incredible honor.
“I am so excited that it’s hard to put into words.”
Trimble was officially named to the team after the Champion Challenge late last month at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. She said that the US team truly jelled during the event, making it easy to be a leader.
Porcella said Trimble was chosen partly because she picked up the US team’s defense so quickly and also began to teach it to her teammates.
“It’s been amazing from the beginning,” Trimble said of her new teammates. “We all really clicked personality-wise.
“Everyone on the team is so genuine and so nice and gracious. Obviously, we have a few goofballs. We had so much fun in Florida.
“That definitely was maybe not what I’d call the turning point, but it felt like we were a ‘team’ in Florida. Twenty-four of us genuinely bonded and opened up. I can’t wait to get together – I literally look forward to the next time I see them.”
Right now Trimble is focused on the Episcopal Academy season. EA has won six straight Inter-Ac League titles and is a favorite again. Practices begin later this week.
Trimble will next see her US teammates at the National Tournament during Memorial Day Weekend. The team will have a mini-camp in late June and then meet up for a week-long camp in late July in Bel Air, Md., before traveling to Germany.
“I definitely will soak up every moment of this season,” Trimble said. “We not only want to win the Inter-Ac, we want to go undefeated. That is one thing we haven’t done since I have been here.”
Trimble, a two-time winner of the Heather Leigh Albert award for the top player at the US Lacrosse National Tournament, was an All-American and an All-Phillylacrosse.com pick last year while leading EA to its sixth straight Inter-Ac League crown.
Trimble, who has signed a Letter of Intent to play at Duke, also was named as the No. 2 senior in the nation by ESPN RISE and was one of the top 10 Young Guns in Inside Lacrosse’s listing of the top rising seniors during the summer. Trimble, who had 70 goals and 30 assists last year, plays for the Phantastix club team.
