Hup Hupfeldt scored six goals to lead visiting Haverford School to a 16-9 victory over Penn Charter today in Inter-Ac League boys’ lacrosse.

The Fords – ranked No. 1 in all three major national polls and in the PA Media Rankings – improved to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the Inter-Ac. Penn Charter fell to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Haverford seized a 6-1 first-period lead as Hupfeldt tallied three of his goals.

“[We did] a great job moving the ball, being unselfish, and scoring,” aid Hupfeldt. “We knew that if we could move the ball, then our shots would open up, so we focused on that.

“We tried not to take the first shot we saw and focused on moving it around as much as we could before we turned it over.”

Carl Walrath added two goals and two assists for Haverford School, while Will McNamara had a goal and two assists and six others scored once. Joe McCallion, named the Player of the Week by Lacrosse Magazine online, won 13 of 17 face-offs.

Shane Carr led Penn Charter with three goals and an assist and Tyler White scored three goals.

Defensively, Haverford School senior Goran Murray had the task of covering Qukers senior standout Joey Sankey – who had just one goal. On Saturday, Murray was credited for holding down Darien (Conn.) standout Case Matheis.

“It’s like playing a better version of Darien’s Case [Matheis],” said Murray of defending Sankey. “The defense focused on playing angles. I tried to body him up, because I know that I am taller and a little bit bigger, but he’s quick.

“Other than that, we focused on angles and sliding and watched a lot of film studying how he plays.”
