Henry Blynn scored four goals and Reilly Hupfeldt added a pair as host Haverford School improved to 4-0 today by defeating Chestnut Hill Academy, 17-3, in a non-league boys’ lacrosse game.

The Fords, ranked No. 1 in the country in two national polls, led 11-1 at halftime and enjoyed their first easy win after downing three Maryland powers last week. Thirteen players scored and Colin Heffernan made six saves in three periods to earn the win.

For the Devils (1-1), Forrest Rall scored twice and Jackson Kleintz added one goal. Corbin Booker made eight saves in goal.

Despite the rout, the Fords saw many areas of their game that need focus.

“[Chestnut Hill] showed us just how important it is to clean up our sticks and be ready to play,” said Will Gural, who won 8 of 10 face-offs and scored once. “The offense did really well today, but there was still a great deal of sloppy play that we need to correct before we go up against a team like Deerfield Academy (in a scrimmage) on Saturday.”

Heffernan said the Fords need to continue to improve their defense, which has shown some inconsistencies in the first four games.

“The team needed to improve some elements of our defense,” he said. “Today’s game showed that we need to improve our fast-break defense, but the important thing for the team’s overall success is keeping its focus throughout the break.

“We have to keep practicing hard, show up on Saturday, and maintain that focus during our week off.”

Added Max Kurtzman: “It is important that the [the team] get some good rest, get a good practice in, and come ready to play on Saturday.”
