Trey Lauletta scored off a feed from defenseman Reilly Wilson in transition in the fourth overtime period as host Downingtown East defeated Springfield-Delco, 7-6, today in a non-league boys’ lacrosse matinee marathon.
The Cougars (3-1) pulled off one of the most remarkable defensive efforts by holding the Cougars to one goal for the final six periods of the game, completing a comeback from a 5-0 first-period deficit.
Kyle Lauletta led Downingtown East with three goals while brother Trey and Tyler Kroft each had a goal and an assist. Derrick Sell made nine saves and the Cougar defense was outstanding, first-year coach Todd Cliggett reported.
“The defense played great and the team never gave up,” he said.
Springfield-Delco (2-1) got two goals each from Joe Venit and Jesse Martin and standout goaltending from Dan O’Connell (15 saves).
