Tyler Brooke had four goals and an assist and Connor Frisina added three goals as host Conestoga defeated Garnet Valley, 10-6, tonight to win the Central League boys’ lacrosse championship.
The Pioneers (17-1 overall) finished 11-0 in the Central League, leaving the Jaguars (13-4 overall) in second at 10-1.
Conestoga is expected to earn the No. 1 in the District 1 tournament as brackets will be released this weekend. The Pioneers are the two-time defending champions.
The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-3 halftime lead before Garnet Valley scored three goals in the third to draw within 8-6. In the fourth quarter, Brooke scored two goals in a span of 3 minutes, 22 seconds to clinch it.
“We’re happy to escape with a win,” said Conestoga coach Brian Samson. “We built an early lead, but our defense held and did a good job.
“Garnet Valley didn’t give up I was impressed with their squad. They made a lot of plays and cut our lead to 8-6. Fortunately, our guys responded well in the fourth quarter.”
Kyle Morrison added a goal and an assist for the Pioneers, while Adam Goins and
Kevin Rudd each scored once. Robbie Zonino made eight saves in gthe second half and John Lopes had three stops in the first half.
“The ninth goal by Tyler Brooke was huge for us to break the (Garnet Valley) run,” Samson said. “Robbie Zonino was a key in the second half. He was (excellent) in the fourth period.”
