Damian Sobieski scored three goals and Tom Malone made 16 while the Avon Grove defense put a blanket on the dangerous Garnet Valley attack Saturday night as the Devils claimed a stunning 8-4 victory over the Jaguars in a non-league game involving two undefeated lacrosse teams.

Avon Grove, ranked No. 10 in the PA Media Rankings and still somewhat unheralded, improved to 7-0 overall. Garnet Valley, ranked No. 3 in PA and No. 17 in the ESPN RISE Powerade Fab 50, fell to 5-1.

Avon Grove led, 5-2, at halftime and 6-2 after three periods. The back line of Kevin Barrow, Matt Frey and David Cardile, LSM Matt King and defensive middies Matt Schroeder and Matt Darkow played standout team defense.

“Our kids believe in each other and they trust each other,” said Avon Grove coach Eric Jackson. “They step up in big situations. Having this core group is something special. They are focused right now.”

Joseph Taulane led Garnet Valley with two goals.
