Boys’ club lacrosse: Rebel Elite wins American League bracket at Rutgers MVP Tournament, bows in semifinals

Rebel Elite Lacrosse, comprised of a mixture of 2012, 2013, and 2014 aged players, had a strong showing at the Rutgers MVP Tournament last weekend. Rebel won the American League bracket outright with a 4-0 record.

Rebel fell in the semifinals, 5-4, to Leading Edge 2013 by a goal in a heartbreaking loss on a goal with 10 seconds to play.

Goalie Andrew Sabia (Plymouth Whitemarsh, face-off specialist Zach Penfil (Garnet Valley), defenseman Kevin Gayhardt (Episcopal Academy), and attackman Adam Spangenberg (Malvern Prep) were the outstanding players for Rebel Elite throughout the tournament.

By winning its bracket, Rebel Elite qualified for the Dick’s National Championship January in Tampa, Fla.
