Lacrosse Magazine preseason women’s rankings: Princeton is No. 7, Penn No. 12 in D1; WCU No. 6 in D2

Lacrosse Magazine, the flagship publication of US Lacrosse, today announced its 2012 preseason college team rankings and preseason players of the year.

The rankings, compiled by Lacrosse Magazine staff after consultations with coaches, predict the champions of 12 divisions of college play, including the NCAA, the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association, the US Lacrosse Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The magazine tabbed defending NCAA Division I champion Northwestern to repeat in 2012 in Division I, and Gettysburg to repeat in Division III.

In Division III, the Preseason Player of the Year is College of New Jersey senior midfielder and Lenape (N.J.) grad Leigh Mitchell, who last year was an All-American and set a single-season record with 123 points.
