Bishop Shanahan senior midfielder Joe McErlean has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at St. Joseph’s University.
Joe McErlean log:
High School: Bishop Shanahan High School
Graduation Year: 2012
Position: Midfield
College Choice: Saint Joseph’s University
Club Affiliation: Twist, Duke’s LC
Major lacrosse honors: 2012 BSHS co-captain, 1st team Ches-Mont midfielder, 2011 Daily Local 1st team all-area, EPSLA rising senior all-star, Top 205 Rising Senior all-star, 2nd team PAC-10 attack
Academic honors: Honor Roll, Bishop Shanahan Leadership Council, 2011 Chester County Law Day Essay winner
What will you major in/study?: Business
Why did you choose school?: “St. Joe’s offers an excellent education as well as an amazing opportunity on the lacrosse field. The Haub School of Business is one of the finest in the country. I think that Coach (Taylor) Wray, Coach Dan Keating, and Coach Michael Keating’s work ethics are outstanding. I cannot wait to become a part of their new tradition on Hawk Hill!”
What is your HS team’s outlook for next year?: “I am very excited for this spring season. We lost a fair amount of senior starters, but I think that our younger players are biting at the bit to fill their shoes. We have a great coaching staff that would like to bring a Ches-Mont title to Shanahan this spring. I think that we are on our way to becoming one of the top teams in the area.”
Other comments: “I would like to thank my parents and family. Without them, I would not be the person I am today. I would also like to thank the coaches at Twist Lacrosse, the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, Shanahan, and Phoenixville.”
Other info: McErlean is the second recruit for first-year coach Wray; also committed is Cherry Hill East defenseman Samuel Kotler.
